#447: Introducing...Button Eyes

Whilst Lewis Lindgren might well be the brainchild of London’s Button Eyes, not all of the band’s rich and varied nature stems from the producer and ‘head-honcho’ alone. With an almost-revolving cast of singers, each single from the band has its own individual personality, whilst mainstay members Will Calderbank and Halo Jones, not to mention Lindgren himself, manage to keep everything quintessentially Button Eyes despite the differing array of singers the band hosts.

#445: Catching Up With...The Smith Street Band

Contrary to what people may believe, punk and folk are two genres which, at their roots, are massively similar. Both provided, and continue to provide, a voice to the voiceless, they represent the under-represented and, with the exception of hip-hop, are arguably two of the most blue-collar genres still enjoying relative popularity. With that in mind, it’s really of little surprise then that the boundaries of the two, whilst not blurring per se, are still becoming slowly entwined, at least as far as some acts are concerned.

#444: Introducing...Rob Bravery

Those first, early reviews and coverage can be critical in an artist just starting out, it can be the difference between being noticed by bigger institutions, and floundering in underground obscurity. Just as well then, that the PR machine behind newcomer Rob Bravery has been working overtime, allowing the subtle and somewhat melancholic pop to reach the ears of the upper echelons of the music press.

#443: Introducing...FEHM

Never ones to shy away from the heavier side of things, the latest band to have us putting on our camo shorts and heading for a mosh-pit are Leeds-based post-punk-cum-hardcore outfit, FEHM. In keeping with the City's tradition of angular and angsty noise, they come off much like Eagulls, only less insane and a little more socially aware. And though both bands are interested in the current state of affairs, FEHM's forthcoming Animal Fat EP paints pictures of urban decay in a more tangible manor, though that doesn't make it any easier to digest.

#442: Introducing...Forever Cult

Every city in the UK upholds its own musical identity, Liverpool and its Scouse psychedelia, Sheffield and its burgeoning indie scene, Leeds, however, whilst very much contributing to the North’s musical landscape overall, has always been overshadowed by its larger counterparts further down the M62. Until recently, that is. Now, the bands the city is producing are embracing a sound far more akin to ’90s Seattle than present day Yorkshire, although the ubiquitous influence of Hookworms’ MJ is still never far away.

#441: Introducing...Hartheim

Like many of Manchester’s more atypical acts, Hartheim, were formed in the dank dilapidation of the now-infamous SWAYS bunker, following in the footsteps of the likes of MONEY and PINS to name just two of the label’s alumni. Indeed, much like their previous labelmates, Hartheim’s music is a far cry from typical ideas about Manchester; the band are far more interested in exploring the human condition and its complicated emotions than chronicling the mundane like many of the more generic acts on offer within the city.
