#295: The Nankeens - Gorilla, Manchester (17/05/14)

Whilst it almost goes without saying that there's a plethora of quality music on offer in Manchester on a daily basis, there are some gigs that bring together those in the city, that are supposedly in the know - promoters, critics, labels and perhaps most importantly of all, other bands. Tonight is one such night. Hosted by local label Scruff of the Neck Records, the bill features some of Greater Manchester's most promising talent in the form of Salford boys The Nankeens, with The High Nines, Skinny Roller and David Liversedge in support.

The gents at Scruff of the Neck Records have a free mixtape available featuring both The High Nines and Skinny Roller, click here to download it.

#203: The Bedroom Hour, Night & Day, Manchester - 2/11/13 (Photo-review)

Local Manchester photographer Trust A Fox, once again lent us his skills and headed down to the Night & Day CafĂ© in order to shoot The Bedroom Hour, a band who we've been championing over at Life's A Beech for almost a year now. Needless to say the show was cracking outing for the lads, and one which he's captured brilliantly.

#198: Feed the Kid - Ducie Bridge Black Room, Manchester - 1/11/13 (Photo-review)

Manchester based photographer Trust A Fox, once again leant his deft hand to our blog and caught the city's very own Feed the Kid in the intimate setting of MRO Black Room, above Ducie Bridge. Having formed early last year, the band have already earned critical acclaim from the likes of Terry Christian and if their reputation was anything to go, tonight was going to prove to be brilliant.

Being from Manchester, I'm lucky enough to have a rich and vibrant music scene right on my metaphorical doorstep. Every night the city plays host to a plethora of club nights and gigs in a variety of genres and venues to suit tastes of every persuasion. Being the city that it is, steeped with indie heritage, it goes without saying that within the burgeoning flock of bands vying for the spotlight competition is fierce, yet within this competition, friendships and relationships are formed which allow gigs such as tonight's to take place. Featuring two of Manchester hottest unsigned bands, Puppet Rebellion and Velocets, and the Wirral-based psychedelic Rise of General Mezmar who kick off the proceedings.
